About Us

Happy Dayz Vineyard is located in Penryn, Ca.  Owners Rick and Jacque both grew up in Placer County and have two daughters.

Rick’s love for wine was inspired by his two sisters back in the early 2000’s on a camping trip after running out of beer. Since then he has grown to love many varieties of wine, to the point of dreaming of owning a vineyard.

We can’t tell our story without first saying that Rick’s love for farming started with planting onions in 2006. He loved the idea of planting a seed and helping it turn into something purposeful and delicious.

Then around 2013 a big idea of owning a vineyard started turning into a real plan. Since Jacque’s dad, Tom Aguilar, had some unplanted land on their mandarin property in Penryn, the idea started to become a reality. With much help and guidance from Tom and many others the first acre of Malbec grapes were planted in the spring of 2014.

Just shy of 1000 vines was a big undertaking and it took a lot of help. We planted our own vineyard with the help from our family and friends. Everything that was needed for the vines was done by us, no companies were hired to help us plan, till, irrigate, dig, pound posts, or plant.

The Vineyard doubled in size the following year with the planting of more Malbec and Nebbiolo grapes and since have added Tempranillo and roussanne grapes. Our vineyard is truly a labor of love and has brought the family together countless times, often to work but also to enjoy the wine with good company.

Cheers to Happy Dayz!

We chose the name Happy Dayz as a tribute to Jacque’s Grandfather, Frank Aguilar, who started farming on the property in the 1940’s. He would raise a glass and say,

“Cheers to Happy Dayz!”

What we grow

About Malbec:

Malbec is a purple grape variety used in making red wine. It’s dark in color and robust in tannins. The Malbec grape has a thick skin and needs more sun and heat than Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. Malbec wine pairs well with lean cuts of meat like flank, sirloin, and even chicken, Lamb and Pork.

About Nebbiolo:

Nebbiolo grapes are an Italian red grape variety that produces lightly-colored red wines that can be high in tannins in youth. Nebbiolo wines pair well with salty dishes. Beef cuts like ribeye and prime rib also pair well with Nebbiolo in addition to sausages, duck and pork.
